Overview
The Non-Lucrative Visa (Visado de Residencia No Lucrativa) is the main route to Spanish residency for financially independent individuals, retirees, and investors who wish to live in Spain without working. It is governed by LO 4/2000 and RD 557/2011.
To qualify, you must demonstrate sufficient passive income — savings, pension, investments, rental income or dividends — without any intention of working in Spain. The minimum income threshold is approximately €2,400/month (400% of the IPREM), updated annually. After 5 years of continuous legal residence, you can apply for long-term residency. After 10 years, Spanish nationality.
