Overview

What you need to knowabout this route.

Hiring non-EU talent for your Spanish operation requires a work permit — obtained by the employer before the employee can start. The process involves both the company (sponsoring the permit) and the employee (providing documents), and takes typically 2–3 months from a complete submission.

I manage the entire process from the company side — coordinating with the employee, preparing the employer documentation, handling Extranjería and UGE submissions, and following up until the permit is in hand. Most importantly, I confirm eligibility before any offer is made, so your hiring decisions stand on solid legal ground.

FAQ

Frequently askedquestions.

Who needs a work permit?
Non-EU/EEA nationals who are not already in possession of a Spanish work authorisation. EU citizens have the right to work freely in Spain and do not need a permit.
Can the employee start before the permit is issued?
No. The employee cannot start working in Spain until the work permit is issued and the employment contract is in force. Starting work before permit approval is an administrative violation.
How long does the process take?
Typically 2–3 months from submission of a complete, correct file. With priority processing, we target the shorter end of this window.
Does the company need to be based in Spain?
Not necessarily. Foreign companies with a payroll obligation or service agreement in Spain can sponsor permits in certain circumstances. I assess this case by case.
What happens at renewal?
Work permits are typically issued for 1–2 years and linked to the employment contract. I handle renewals and build a permit calendar to ensure no permit lapses undetected.
