Overview

What you need to knowabout this route.

The Startup Entrepreneur Visa (Autorización de Residencia para Emprendedores) was introduced by Spain's Ley de Startups 28/2022 and is designed for founders of innovative, scalable companies who want to base their startup in Spain.

Unlike traditional business visas, there is no minimum capital requirement. What matters is the quality and scalability of the project — evaluated by ENISA (Empresa Nacional de Innovación). A positive ENISA evaluation is the key requirement for the visa, after which UGE processes the residence permit within 20 business days.

FAQ

Frequently askedquestions.

What is the ENISA evaluation?
ENISA (Empresa Nacional de Innovación) evaluates your startup's innovation, scalability and market potential. A positive report from ENISA is required before UGE can issue the residence permit. ENISA targets a 3-month turnaround.
Do I need to register a company first?
Not necessarily — you can apply based on a detailed business plan and intent to incorporate. I advise on the most efficient sequence case by case.
Can the founding team all apply?
Yes. Multiple co-founders can each apply for the visa, provided each has an appropriate stake in the company and the business plan supports the team structure.
What happens if ENISA rejects the dossier?
A negative ENISA report does not mean permanent rejection — you can revise and resubmit. The quality of the dossier is critical, which is why I manage the preparation end to end.
Is this the same as the self-employed visa?
No. The Startup Visa targets founders of innovative companies evaluated by ENISA. The Cuenta Propia (self-employed) permit is for freelancers and contractors without a startup structure.
