Status regularisation for individuals who have lived continuously in Spain for 3 years — without prior legal status. Social, labour and family routes under LO 4/2000.
Overview
Arraigo (literally "rootedness") is the regularisation route for individuals who have been living continuously in Spain for at least 3 years without legal status. It recognises the reality that many people are deeply integrated into Spanish society — working, renting, raising children — and provides a pathway to legal residence and work authorisation.
There are three arraigo routes: Arraigo Social (social roots — 3 years residence + family ties or job offer), Arraigo Laboral (labour roots — 2 years irregular residence with 6 months of undeclared work demonstrated) and Arraigo Familiar (family roots — for parents of Spanish nationals or individuals with a Spanish spouse). The 2022 reform streamlined the informe de arraigo and made the process more accessible.
